The freundinnen der kunst artists’ collective has been making public statements on social and political themes since 1999 in the form of a wide range of solo and group works (such as »Reinheit« or »Muster«), which were brought together as »manifestations« and presented in thematically suited locations.

Over time the performance character of their work increasingly asserted itself (»Erstes Linzer Kunsthäkeln«, »synchronstricken«, »Vier freundinnen im Rahmen«, »Auslage in Arbeit«, »Tapetenwechsel«, »Wollige Wände« or »Die kranken Schwestern«). In 2010, the freundinnen der kunst started their artistic research project on what longing does to people and how it can at least partially be satisfied. The first performance, »Tears«, was staged in March 2010 at the Steyr provincial hospital. In heavening, the freundinnen der kunst dressed in wedding dresses bounce on a trampoline on the roof of the OK Centre. Bouncing takes place according to a strict schedule, the height being determined by the camera’s field of view. The freundinnen der kunst are trying to get all four of them in one frame at the same time.

(freudinnen der kunst, Julia Stoff)

»I felt freed from the fetters of gravity and in the memory of the new experienced the extraordinary pleasure that is peculiar to high places.«

(Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space)
