In her performances, interventions and video installations Marlene Haring focuses on spatial and social structures. She sets to work on conventions that determine relationships and patterns of behaviour, with the aim of bringing about changes.

In the foyer of the OK Centre Haring shows the poster work Because Every Hair is Different (Weil jedes Haar anders ist!), three larger-than-life billboards depicting the artist with her whole body covered in blond hair. The work originated in the performance »Marlene Hairy or In my bathtub I’m the captain« that featured Haring, her whole body covered in blond hair, crawling sea-lion style across different venues in public space.

In addition to this, Haring shows Hair on fire (Hair Extinguisher), a batch of hairy fire extinguishers deposited as if by chance. From her description it becomes clear that the artist sees her work as fusing a performatively charged, post-feminist style of body art and a strand of tongue-in-cheek Institutional critique, with a view to analysing the relationship between the body and the venue and context of the exhibition: »Just as the poster showcases in the foyer might be on their way out of the museum, the fire extinguishers might be about to be distributed to the exhibition rooms. So they huddle together as if they had been temporarily dumped there.«
