Installation

Jack Hauser reassembles Miryam van Doren’s mobile apartment for TRIENNALE LINZ . Following up his wish to make it possible for art not only to be looked at but to be lived in as a communication space, over ten years ago Hauser started furnishing a living room with artistic elements.

In order to undermine his own authorship and to autonomise his artistic interventions he invented the figure of Miryam van Doren – a fictional vehicle whose status is left deliberately vague. The living room, which has already stopped over in Vienna and Berlin, now moves into an exhibition space for the first time. The objects comprising the installation – clothes, postcards, a chair – tell stories about themselves, about Miryam van Doren’s life and about Jack Hauser’s artistic interventions. During the performances that form an integral part of this work of art, Hauser and other artists of the M1+1 group will be making use of these objects and of the living room. An unhinged door mounted on rollers serves as an approximation to Miryam van Doren’s door. In the course of the exhibition it is going to put its mobility to good use, move about, create new connections and open up new spaces. Jack Hauser has created a three-dimensional projection, a narrative space free from temporal or spatial restrictions, as is evidenced in the statement that »Miryam van Doren loves being visited«.
