Harald Hund and Paul Horn have been working as a team on video and film projects for several years now. Three of the films that have resulted from this fruitful cooperation and that belong to the Wohnserie are shown at TRIENNALE LINZ : the series had kicked off in 2002 with »Tomato Heads«, which documented the day-to-day life of a »red-faced« couple in a topsy-turvy world.

This early work (in collaboration with Karo Meiberger) was the source of inspiration for Dropping Furniture. Two initially empty rooms are the stage for a choreography for pieces of furniture tumbling down from nowhere. We witness the flat being vandalised in slow motion. A chandelier, a sofa and chairs shatter on the floor of an old-fashioned living room amid dull thumps. The film conveys a symbolic picture of a life in tatters.

For Mouse Palace a real apartment was rebuilt as a 1:10 scale model from edible materials for the use of mice. The rodents had hardly arrived when they began nibbling away at their lodgings.

The film project Apnoea, which will be ready for presentation presumably by summer 2010, is available for TRIENNALE LINZ as a short trailer. The focus will again be on the day-to-day life of a family, only this time the people live under water.

The hallmark of Paul Horn and Harald Hund’s films is the gleeful, ironical way they reduce our ideas of space and our notions of normalcy to absurdity.
