Sabine Jelinek’s photographs and video works prove repeatedly to be a complex model of extended self-portraits reflecting her own body, personal experiences of life and places, her role as an artist as well as specific experiences and perceptions.

Several of her photographic series have been created over long periods of time or summarise recurring picture situations. Among these are, for example, views out of studios in various cities and at different times of the year or the fact that since her youth Jelinek has been afflicted by sudden nosebleeds. The photographic work Transfiguration conveys this concrete situation in the form of a self-portrait with camera functioning in the front view of the artist almost exclusively as machine eye. The changing models of the cameras prove, as the various picture titles referring mostly to the colour of the clothes (»yellow-bloody«, »pink-bloody«, »brown-bloody«) or the place of the reproduction (»Rome-bloody«, »Vienna-bloody«), the casualness and authenticity of the moments recorded since 2003. For the series, Jelinek chose the overall title »Transfiguration«, which is in its original meaning used as »idealization«,»ecstasy« as well as as the art-historical term to describe persons in ecstasy. Sabine Jelinek associates these moments of surrender with a personal state of special capacity and the thought of the finiteness of the individual body. Thus Transfiguration represents a self-encounter describing a concrete vulnerability in an act of performative loneliness and in the selfreflexive mirror of the photograph..
