With the La Paloma-Bar one of Hans Kropshofer’s very special sculptural projects has dropped anchor in the Skulpturenpark of the Landesgalerie Linz. A retired sailing boat, which has morphed into a work of art, a watering hole and a meeting point.

In his work as an artist Hans Kropshofer focuses on issues of urban architecture and develops concepts for temporary and permanent platforms for a creative urban public sphere. Urban sites are taken possession of and rededicated as identity-generating venues that are used either for the artist’s own projects or for those of others: exhibitions, dance evenings, debates, lectures, as a beer pub or for sports activities – in the heart of the city, below its surface. The La Paloma Bar project displays the artist’s characteristic use of spaces and materials: stuff that has been found on the site and testifies to its past and has a story to tell is integrated into new ensembles, new narratives that transform the places where they are told. Hans Kropshofer’s approach to Linz’s past and its potential, which is light and witty and at the same time critical, has made him one of the most important exponents of the »Right to the City«.
