Space and time and the way that people perceive them are recurring factors in Sonia Leimer’s artistic work. Very often the medium of film has an important relationship to the works, both as a complex of the entertainment industry and for its technical resources.

For example, she uses foley art (the art of sound effects), green boxes (for image cut-out) or film sets that make it possible for her to make visible the overlap between fiction and reality or between several temporal levels. The work the artist is showing at the TRIENNALE LINZ is no exception. A metal structure set with glass panels: both traditional and so-called crash or sugar glass are used. The difference between these two transparent panes becomes apparent when one first looks through them. The fragile crash glass does not provide a clear view. On recognising that the glass before them is insanely easy to break, the observers suddenly find themselves in a tense relationship to the whole structure. The fragility of the stunt glass becomes a challenge; a moment in time becomes palpable. This results in playing with the temptation to shatter the glass, infusing the sculpture with a potential action. Sonia Leimer’s art work evokes a progression of time in which present and future overlap.
