The artists’ group Mahony has worked on the »Odyssey500« project, an artistic analysis of cultural history of global travelling, for two years. Connotations within travel motifs are questioned in their historical construction and in reference to present-day social phenomena.

The project is conceived on various temporal and content-specific levels and comprises several actual journeys. Considering the journey as cultural practice, the works are concentrated on differences and seeming opposites of scientific methods – such as measurement and classification – and subjective interpretations of spaces and motifs. The expedition is one of these motifs: as a research journey or an act of appropriation it always carries the basic thought of measurement and definition of the world. Although the age of the great expeditions is over, widespread evidence of these journeys is found again in geopolitical and cultural events. In the OK Centre Mahony deals with an extraordinary observed fall of a meteorite: »On Thursday morning at about nine o’clock a meteorite fell through the roof of our garage and our car and landed in the springs of the seat upholstery.«
