Corinne L. Rusch, aus der Serie / from the series »metaphors in nature«, 2009

4 C-Prints · je 40 x 50 cm each

The Swiss photographer designs exuberant scenographies, in which the collapse of the protagonists in luxurious upper-class rooms emphasises a surreal reality. Behind their perfectionist façade, the frozen figures are part of a cynical game, which disperses narrative fragments in the staged rooms like tracks, which in turn become lost in the nightmarish density of the interior.

In the four pictures of the series metaphors in nature animal furs, antlers and preserved skulls are draped in front of a black background. The slack limbs of apathetically lounging people appear out of the abundance of empty animal covers, under the gaze of frozen glass eyes. Their heads, coiffed, madeup, but still seemingly lifeless, are slumped in the midst of the decadence of a pile of luxurious cadavers. The animal trophies and powerless bodies seem to be victims and perpetrators at the same time, entangled in deadly embrace. The opulent still-lives are reminiscent of the exotic images of colonialism, epochs of subservience, veneration and forced availability. At the same time, the pictures may be understood as metaphors of present-day body discourses: the longing for nature and naturalness overlaps with the wish for eternal youth, the conservation of surfaces and the ideals of a theatrical society.
